Smoothies and Smoothie Recipes: Fruit and Yogurt Smoothie Recipes

Updated on February 2, 2014

Smoothie Recipes and Smoothie Maker Reviews

Smoothies are so easy to make. Anyone can easily make their own healthy banana  smoothie quickly and easily. Part of the fun of making smoothies is watching it being created right before your eyes. Here is my favorite smoothie recipe. Strawberries can be substituted for the blueberries if desired.

Blueberry Smoothie.

First add 1/2 cup of your favorite fruit juice and 1/2 cup of plain or vanilla low-fat yogurt   then add 3/4 cup of fresh frozen blueberries and the crushed ice then blend until smooth. Using unsweetened fruit juice is the most nutritious method. This makes one serving of smoothie.

To make your own favorite smoothie recipe: first add 1/2 cup of your favorite fruit juice and 1/2 cup of plain or vanilla low-fat yogurt (or frozen yogurt for an icier texture) then add 3/4 cup of your favorite fresh frozen fruit and 1/2 cup of crushed ice.

Low carb Peach Smoothie

1 fresh or frozen peach (sliced)

1/3 cup apple juice

1/2 cup plain non fat yogurt

6 ice cubes

Blend until smooth

If you don't have fresh frozen fruit for your smoothie you could use fresh fruit and add crushed ice or crush ice cubes to make your own. But a good quality blender is needed to process the ice cubes. Canned fruit is not recommended for smoothies.

Frozen peaches are available year round.

Go ahead and try my favorite blueberry smoothie recipe or create your own using these smoothie making guidelines. Smoothies are healthy and nutritious and taste great.

Low-carb Smoothies: More Than 50 Fabulous Recipes The Whole Family Will Love
My boys and I have had a smoothie every morning for breakfast for the past two weeks--we're hooked! I'm a type 1 diabetic, and find that a smoothie like this works perfectly for a great meal replacement. They keep me satisfied until the next meal, and most importantly, they really taste great. The carb counts are accurate and my blood sugar remains stable after having one. My kids aren't on a restricted carb diet, but they love the taste too! If you're already a low-carb dieter, you'll most likely have all the ingredients in your pantry. Enjoy!

Making Your Own Custom Smoothie Recipe or Strawberry Banana Smoothie

It's easy to make great tasting smoothies by making your own recipe

The above blueberry smoothie is about 280 calories. Here is a great free calorie calculator if you're counting.

First decide what type of smoothie you want to make. Is it for some quick energy, preworkout, low calorie, brain power boost, a whole meal or just a quick tasty snack?

Strawberry Breakfast Smoothie Recipe

Here's one I tried this morning. First I ground 1/4 cup quick oats into flour using a rotary coffee grinder. Remember to add the smoothie ingredients to the blender in this order. First the fruit juice.

1/2 cup orange juice

1/2 cup vanilla yogurt

1/4 cup oat flour

1/4 cup crushed ice

1/2 cup frozen Strawberrys

Blend until smooth. Sometimes an air pocket gets trapped in the middle of the smoothie ingredients and they won't mix. I then hold the lid on tightly and shake the blender back and forth until they begin mixing properly. When the smoothie is circulating nicely with a cavity in the surface of the mixture it is ready to pour into your glass and enjoy.

Meal Replacement Smoothie

Here is one that I've been experimenting with lately to make one that is more filling and healthy.

Add to your blender

1/2 cup pineapple juice

1/2 cup vanilla yogurt

1/2 cup applesauce

Blend these together then add the following dry ingredients after processed.

1 tbsp flaxseed

2 tbsp sunflower seeds

4 tbsp quick oats

Process these in a coffee grinder or processor into a flour type powder.

After those are blended in add 1/2 cup crushed ice and finish blending and enjoy.

Raspberry Meal Smoothie.

This granola mix adds more protein and calories.

Use a coffee grinder or food processor to make flour with

1 Tb flaxseed

2 Tb sunflower seeds

1/2 cup Nutty granola

Combine that in your blender with

1/2 cup apple juice

1/2 cup applesauce

1/2 cup vanilla yogurt

3/4 cup Frozen Raspberries (Fresh frozen without syrup)

Smoothie Maker Review - Review of Hamilton Beach 50754 Wavestation 10 speed Smoothie Blender

I've been using this Hamilton Beach 50754 WaveStation 10-Speed Dispensing Blender for over 2 years now mainly for making smoothies and it's been working great. It chops average sized ice cubes with ease and turns out a consistent slushy textured smoothie each time.

The plastic lexan double wall pitcher holds 7 cups worth of smoothie ingredients and has 2 baffles which create a up and down wave action which blends the mixture more thoroughly. There is a dispenser spout which is handy for easier pouring of your smoothies. But I used the cap for that because I usually just make a single serving. The pitcher is easily removed from the base for easy cleaning. The dispenser spout requires some disassembly to clean properly. For the easiest cleaning be sure and clean the pitcher immediately after using.

Overall this smoothie blender is a great blender for only $30.oo

More Smoothie Recipes and Tips

There are many ways to make smoothies

Sweet and Sour Smoothie Recipe

I was just thinking of the saying "There wouldn't be sweet without the sour" and thought what about a sweet and sour smoothie? There was some sweet and sour sauce in the frig but I thought this doesn't seem right to add to a smoothie. The sour ingredients in it were vinegar and lemon juice so I gave it a try.

1/4 c. Pineapple juice

1/4 c. apple juice

1/2 c. vanilla yogurt

1/4 c. frozen blueberries

1/4 c. crushed ice

1 tsp lemon juice

I blended this until it was smooth and it was quite good!

Try it it was really good.

Smoothie Tip

Freeze unpeeled bananas so you will never run out of bananas when you have the urge for a banana smoothie.

To use frozen bananas microwave one for 10 seconds then peel and add to your smoothie mix.

Banana Blueberry Breakfast Smoothie

Here is another great breakfast smoothie recipe that I just threw together for breakfast this morning. I just bought a new Hamilton Beach Smoothie Maker and am quite pleased with it so far.

1/4 c. Pineapple juice

1/4 c. Applesauce

1/2 c. vanilla yogurt

1/2 c. fresh Blueberries

1 Tbp. ground flaxseed

2 Tbps. ground Sunflower seeds

1 frozen banana (peeled of course!)

This one was quite delicious and I think I'll go make another because it was so good.

Cool Smoothie Tip

Fill your ice cube tray with fruit juice and use the frozen juice to make smoothies.

Banana Pineapple Smoothie

1/4 c Pineapple juice

1/4 c Applesauce

1/2 c Vanilla Yogurt

1 banana unpeeled frozen

5 frozen juice cubes

Blend until smooth and enjoy!
